MOSTAR/ SARAJEVO, Feb 13 (FENA) - Director of Border Police of BiH (BPBiH), Zoran Galic, and the UNHCR representative for BiH Anne-Christine Eriksson, at the meeting held in sarajevo on Tuesday exchanged information regarding the increased number of asylum seekers in BiH, as well as on activities aimed at responding to new challenges.
An example of joint activities is the series of workshops planned by BPBiH, the BiH Foreign Service and UNHCR with the aim to build the capacity of social welfare centers to improve conditions for vulnerable asylum seekers, especially children without attendant or those separated from primary guardians.
"UNHCR recognizes the importance of the Border Police of BiH as the first subject that many asylum seekers contact," Eriksson said, pointing out the excellent co-operation that UNHCR has with all the BP BiH organizational units in the field.
The good cooperation with UNHCR representatives was also confirmed by Director Galic, who underlined that members of the BPBiH, besides the measures and actions taken to protect the border security and the citizens of BiH, treated illegal migrants in accordance with international humanitarian law.
He added that BPBiH, as in the previous period, would actively participate in projects that addressed vulnerable categories of illegal migrants and asylum seekers.
On the occasion , Eriksson presented a new information brochure for asylum seekers, jointly drafted by the Ministry of Security of BiH, the BiHMinistry of Justice, the NGO for providing free legal aid "Your Rights of BiH" and the BiH Women's Initiative.
The brochure has been translated into ten languages, among others, in the languages spoken by asylum seekers in BiH - Arabic, Pashto and Urdu.
Brochure copies will be forwarded to international border crossings including International Airport Sarajevo, says the statement issued by the BPBiH.
