SARAJEVO, February 14 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić stated today that he did not know about the purchase of weapons for the police in Republika Srpska, because nothing of the sort was discussed at the sessions of the Council of Ministers.

He added that he would request adequate information from the competent institutions that have decided to do so, and pointed out that any weapons procurement in BiH, especially considering the quantity purchased by Republika Srpska’s Ministry of Interior, is a matter of concern for all citizens.

"This is a matter of concern for the citizens, given our past, and they need to explain the reasons for purchasing such a large amount of automatic rifles, and we will ask if all this has been done in line with the standards prescribed in BiH," Zvizdić added.

NATO HQ and EUFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been informed about the public's concern after the announcement that 2,500 rifles would be purchased for the Republika Srpska police.

However, from the NATO HQ responded to FENA’s inquiry saying that these are the issues that need to be addressed by the competent institutions of BiH.

On the other hand, in a statement to FENA, the EUFOR emphasized that they are constantly monitoring the situation in BiH and responding appropriately in accordance with their mandate under the United Nations Security Council Resolution and the General Framework Agreement for Peace, but they did not want further comment on this case.
