SARAJEVO, February 21 (FENA) - The OSCE Mission will continue to strongly support the reform process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said OSCE Secretary-General Thomas Greminger, who is currently in a two-day visit to BiH.

Greminger said at a press conference, that he talked with the BiH officials about issues that remain a challenge to the reform path, such as education, amendments to the Election Law and the implementation of human rights and anti-corruption laws.

“Cooperation with the authorities at all levels is important for both sides. OSCE has maintained an active but impartial role in this country and we will continue to do all of this and work with all stakeholders at all levels,” Greminger said and noted that some progress has been made over the past years, including the implementation of the Reform Agenda.

However, he noted that he was concerned about the negative rhetoric of political leaders, which undermines the progress made and makes it impossible to make significant advances.

“Therefore, I would like to encourage the political leaders of this country to make more efforts to reach compromise for the benefit of all citizens,” Greminger emphasized.

He pointed out that he spoke to all stakeholders on the Election Law.

“Amendments to the Election Law of BiH have to be made in line with the recent decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH. The OSCE Mission works with other partners from the international community in order to create the prerequisites for dialogue and compromise, but the parties themselves have to get more strongly engaged,” Greminger said.

With regard to problems in education, he said that children from all over BiH are present and future of this country and they deserve equal opportunities for quality education.

“Unfortunately, some of the leaders often use children as a means of achieving political goals. BiH cannot become a prosperous country unless it provides quality education without any form of discrimination. Students from Jajce managed to prevent divisions in their community,” said Greminger, adding that OSCE will continue to provide support for inclusive primary and secondary education in BiH.

Greminger thanked for the hospitality in BiH and stressed that during his visit to he met with members of the BiH Presidency, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH and representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, and visited Travnik and Vitez where he met with local officials.
