SARAJEVO, March 2 (FENA) - BiH and Iran have significant economic potential and there are many possibilities for economic cooperation, especially in areas of energy, metal and agro-industry, engineering, paper industry and other sectors, it was emphasized at the BiH-Islamic Republic of Iran Business Forum today.

Aim of the Forum, which is organized by the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH (VTKBiH) in cooperation with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is enhancement of economic cooperation between the two countries in terms of trade exchange and joint investments, by directly connecting businessmen and promoting investment opportunities.

Delegation of Iranian businessmen arrived in BiH along with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the state Mohammad Javad Zarif. Businessmen from Iran do business in different areas: agricultural-food sector, engineering, healthcare and health tourism, medical equipment, engineering, mining, IT, pharmaceutical industry, petrochemicals. Delegation is also composed of trade companies and investors.

President of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH Ahmet Egrlić said there is a great interest for business cooperation and that representatives of more than 30 Iranian and 40 BiH companies will attend bilateral meetings.

"Most important is to conclude the agreement on preferential trade and also for our producers to have an opportunity to import quality raw material and production material from Iran," emphasized Egrlić.

He noted that trade exchange between the two countries amounts only six million KM and it does not reflect the real capacity of both countries.

Vice President of the Iranian Chamber for Economy, Industry, Mining and Agriculture Masoud Khansari stated that Iran has been developing good relations with BiH since proclamation of independence and recognition of BiH.

"Unlike political relations, which we can be extremely pleased with, we have not developed economic cooperation and relations we would like to develop. I hope this visit will result in development of our economic cooperation in different areas," said Khansari.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif especially emphasized possibility of cooperation in energy sector and emphasized he would do everything necessary to facilitate cooperation between businessmen of the two countries.

Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović said that volume of foreign trade exchange between the two countries is modest and that possibilities of BiH and Iran are much greater.

"There are opportunities but also many obstacles when it comes to improving economic cooperation, such as better agreement on preferential trade and a very rigorous visa regime, which is making communication between businessmen difficult, but there is also an inadequate regime of cooperation between banks," said Šarović.

He finds these are the key issues when businessmen want to cooperation with another country and businessmen of other countries and it is a message to decision makers, to help businessmen in that sense.

"On the other hand, the Ministry is completing the final stage with Iran in terms of agreement on preferential trade, so that will solve one big obstacle," said Šarović.
