SARAJEVO, March 5 (FENA) – Although Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia have good relations, there is room for improving economic relations, especially given the fact that the annual trade is under 500,000 euros, highlighted BiH Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak and Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze at today’s meeting.

Mr. Janelidze is in a two-day official visit to BiH, and the ministers confirmed today their commitment to improving the relations by signing the Memorandum of Understanding.

As they noted, this has established the legal framework for improvement of relations and they stressed that BiH would be able to convey to Georgia its experiences when it comes to the road to the European Union, as BiH has so far largely exchanged experiences with the countries that had gone further on this road.

Minister Crnadak reminded that neither of the two countries had each other’s respective embassies, but he also recalled that the two countries had a visa-free regime, which could improve cooperation in the field of tourism.

The two diplomats also discussed relations in the Euro-Asian, the Caucus and the Western Balkans regions. Mr. Crnadak stressed the importance of developing relations in the region, stabilizing the situation and developing friendly relations.

“Our regions are turbulent and I am glad that Minister Janelidze understands the relations here. We also have a situation in which Georgia and BiH have matching positions concerning Kosovo,” Mr. Crnadak underlined.

Georgian chief of diplomacy recalled that 20 years had passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, noting that both countries had gone through many challenges in the 1990s, but that they support each other’s sovereignty.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress made by BiH on the path to the EU membership, stressing that Georgia’s final goal is to become a full member of the EU as well. He also expressed the view that it was possible to deepen the cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture and trade.

During his visit to BiH, Georgian FM Janelidze is also supposed to meet with BiH Presidency member Bakir Izetbegović.
