SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - Representing party activities to improve women's equality in BiH, members of the Initiative 50% of Our Party at today's press conference in Sarajevo stated that they were requesting from the Federation of BiH Government the formation of a Family Fund from which all maternity benefits would be paid.
In this way, the maternity benefits would be equal in all cantons, unlike the current situation in which they differ from one canton to another.
“Being a mother in Sarajevo seems to be more valuable than in other BiH cities,” said Irma Baralija, Chair of the Mostar City Committee of Our Party, pointing to the fact that the Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton had recently made a decision that the maternity benefits in this canton amount to 25 KM.
She warned that diapers, that cost 25.90 KM, are the only thing that can be bought for that amount.
On the Women's Day, a member of Our Party, Jasmina Mršo, drew attention to the fact that every other woman in BiH had experienced sexual harassment. That is why, as she says, Our Party has initiated changes to the codes of ethics so that persons who have committed sexual harassment could be punished.
Also, within the framework of Our Party's education policies, members will carry out activities in the relevant bodies to provide “a free kindergarten and extended homeroom stay for all job-seeking mothers”.
On this occasion, Our Party President Peđa Kojović and a representative in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Sabina Ćudić expressed the pleasure to be part of a party that, as they say, is unlike other parties predominating with the number of women in their membership.
“Our deputies, councilors and activists of Our Party will send ultimatums and concrete demands to all levels of government, which include, inter alia, employment of women and their inclusion in politics and prevention of sexual violence,” it was stated at today's press conference of members of the Our Party’s Initiative 50%.
