BRUSSELS, March 8 (FENA) - Local communities are very important in the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said today in Prnjavor Mr. Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, the Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH.

In the fourth debate within the "Local Community Takes Initiative" project, Mr. Wigemark explained that European integration is not solely reserved for major centers, such as Sarajevo and Banja Luka, but concern the entire society that needs to be transformed.

Therefore, he added, this project was launched, within which he will visit 15 local communities in BiH and hold public debates on the role of the local community, challenges and opportunities provided by the EU accession process.

“We want direct communication with people coming from all spheres of life, including the government," Mr. Wigemark said.

He also reminded that Prnjavor is known as the "Little Europe" because at the end of the 20th century there were around 20 different ethnic groups living in that municipality.

“There are not just the three constituent peoples living in this area, but a significant number of ethnic minorities who live together in a harmonious way,” added the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH in a debate attended by entrepreneurs, representatives of public administration, companies and civil society organizations, young people and farmers.

Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to BiH Nicola Minasi pointed out that the local community was the main driver of change.

He expressed his satisfaction because the EU took the initiative to visit the local communities in BiH, which are crucial in all the processes of getting BiH closer to the EU.

The first three debates organized by the Office of the EU Special Representative in BiH in municipalities across the country were held in Gračanica, Zvornik and Derventa. The debate in Prnjavor was also attended by local, regional and international experts engaged in this EU project in BiH.
