SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - The position of asylum seekers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their treatment was the topic of today's meeting of BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektić and UNHCR Regional Representative Anne-Christine Eriksson.
A large number of irregular migrants and refugees has entered Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last few months and the relevant authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH Border Police, Foreigners’ Affairs Service and Asylum Sector of the BiH Ministry of Security) have taken all measures to keep these flows under control.
As highlighted at today's meeting, the situation has improved considerably and recently the number of migrants and asylum seekers has decreased.
Mr. Mektić informed Ms. Eriksson that the capacities at the Asylum Center in Delijaš can respond to the current needs, but that the possibility of extending the capacities at that location is being considered.
Also, they discussed the possibility of speeding up administrative procedures to attend to the needs of the asylum seekers as soon as possible and to give them adequate assistance and protection, stated the BiH Ministry of Security.
