FENA Press release

BERLIN/SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Crnadak met today with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel with whom he discussed the continuation of the European integration processes of BiH and the region, the internal political situation in BiH ahead of the General Elections with an emphasis on negotiating amendments to the Election Law.

The collocutors noted that the relations between BiH and Germany were good and without unresolved issues, and Mr. Crnadak said the meeting was very significant because it comes after last week's submission of responses to the EC Questionnaire and the entry of BiH into a new phase of the European integration process where candidate status is expected, followed by the start of negotiations with the European Union.

He stressed the satisfaction with the dedication of Germany and the EU to the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans with a clear message of the new EU Strategy which confirmed the approach of measuring each country's progress based on individual achievements and on the basis of fulfillment of criteria.

Mr. Crnadak emphasized the commitment of BiH to further strengthen regional cooperation within the Berlin Process and West Balkan Six (WB6) and to continue activities aimed at improving political dialogue, regional co-operation and maintaining good-neighborly politics.

Mr. Gabriel welcomed the submission of the BiH’s responses to the European Commission's Questionnaire and stressed that, under the new EU Strategy, the whole region had the opportunity to progress and take advantage of the momentum of the European integration process.

He reminded that Germany strongly supported the European perspective of BiH and will continue to actively support its reform process and transformation into a democratic state with the rule of law.

He believes that BiH's prospects for the EU must be real and tangible and that the EU and its member states must engage vigorously in overcoming obstacles and interests that slow down reforms.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the BiH Election Law, the relationship between BiH and NATO, regional cooperation as well as other current issues in BiH, stated the BiH MFA.
