MOSTAR, Mar 9 (FENA) – Within the presentation of the USAID Program "Strengthening Diaspora's Role in Economic Development of BiH", held in Mostar on Friday , the parties being interested in were called on to apply for grants.
The project is worth US $ 1 million, and the maximum amount for a application is KM 50,000. The announcement for applications was open on February 26, and will be closed on March 30 at 16:00 hrs.
Public Relations Officer of the USAID's project "Dijaspora Invests" Nedim Jahic, told reporters that this project was primarily intended for investors from the BiH diaspora.
He pointed out that the aim of the project was to encourage investments from the diaspora and to work through the grant project with companies that have already been registered or are under registration process.
- So, startups and small and medium-sized companies , with which we are trying to reach new people, actually employ new people through these project activities and develop new technologies and introduce innovations in the production and operation processes - Jahic explained.
He underlined that the project was focused on diaspora because 2 million citizens of BiH live in diaspora.
"We see the potential of people who can bring knowledge, money and innovation and have business ties throughout the world which we can use to increase investments in our community," said Jahic.
Within the first announcement from the last year, 13 beneficiaries received grants.
Sara Lerota from the SPARK said that such projects were extremely important because of the great potential of the BiH diaspora.
- Our diaspora implements excellent projects beyond BiH- in the Western Europe countries. They want to return the potential and money to BiH, but also the knowledge and competences they have. It is up to us to take advantage of these potentials and to connect them with the young people who live and work here , "Lerota pointed out.
To remain, the BiH Diaspora Marketplace aims to provide support to at least 70 small and medium-sized enterprises within the early stage of the project, which works with diaspora under the established criteria, and creates 250 new jobs in the assisted companies.
It is also expected that the aforementioned grants will contribute to the rise of a diaspora investment by at least US $ 2 million.
