BiH Presidency Chairman Čović meets with US Ambassador Cormack

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 13 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Chairman Dragan Čović held a meeting today with the US Ambassador to BiH Maureen Cormack and talked about the necessity of amending the Election Law.

Čović noted that the amendments should be made in accordance with the decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH and the European Court of Human Rights.

Čović stressed that the rule of law and constitutional consolidation can only be developed on the basis of respect for the constitutional principle of constitutionality, and that democracy in federal states is much more than a one-person-one vote principle, since it is necessary to strive towards strengthening the internal consensus on all the essential issues within all relevant segments of society.

Without the support to these principles, BiH cannot implement everything that is important in the context of its European perspective, said Čović.

Ambassador Cormack expressed support for EU and NATO aspirations of BiH and the necessary reforms in that respect.
