Strong local self-government is the foundation of every developed society

FENA Sanda Hrkić

SARAJEVO, March 21 (FENA) - The Presidency of the Assembly of the Association of Municipalities and Cities of the Federation of BiH discussed at today's session in Sarajevo certain laws, as well as the projects they have been working on since the beginning of this year.

Vesna Travljanin, director of the Association, in a statement to the press, noted that, according to the Law on Principles of Local Self-Government, the Association is a legal representative of all levels of government, but that it is being ignored and disregarded.

"The laws are passed without consulting us. Local self-government should really be strengthened because it is the foundation of every developed society," she stressed.

President of the Assembly Presidency Hamdo Ejubović said that the municipalities were suffering the consequences of a system of shared duties where local self-government is the lowest level that everyone else is taking advantage of.

Representatives of the Association of Municipalities and Cities of FBiH reminded today that local communities have the first contact with citizens and that higher levels need to be more understanding of them.
