SARAJEVO, March 28 (FENA) - The Sarajevo Cantonal Court sentenced Marijo Frimel to one year and two months in prison for war crime against civilians.

Frimel, a former commander of the ‘Ivan Krndelj’ Unit of the Army of the RBiH, was found guilty of participating in the abuse of a certain number of Serb civilians in the Sarajevo settlement of Hrasno in early October 1992, because of their desire to leave Sarajevo.

Under the verdict, civilians were taken from the basement of the burned skyscraper and from the Ivan Goran Kovačić Elementary School to the premises of the then shopping center, and after physical abuse they were handed to the Military Police.

The injured parties in the case will claim damages in civilian lawsuit.

In the renewed procedure, which followed after the Supreme Court of FBiH overturning the original verdict, the court imposed the same prison sentence of 14 months.
