SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - Armed Forces (AF) BiH is conducting short-term and long-term planning of training and exercises in and out of BiH, through which members of BiH AF are acquiring necessary knowledge, skills and practice that enables them to fulfill their tasks defined in the Law on Defense of BiH efficiently.
"Having in mind that training is necessary to acquire skills, it is clear that Armed Forces of BiH need to implement various forms of training and exercises. Armed Forces of BiH do not have the possibility to build its capability on its own so it is trying to use assistance of other countries and different forms of cooperation to build the necessary capability," Ministry of Defense of BiH stated.
One of those needs is building capability named Forward Air Controllers, defining necessary elements to send requests for close air support and control of that support by declared units of BiH AF.
Considering that that BiH AF has long-term cooperation with the Maryland National Guard (USA NGM), an idea emerged to try and build capability of units of BiH AF through Army to Army Program (Cooperation Program that the USA developed with 79 partner states over the past 20 years).
"Apart from that, this would help members of BiH AF to no longer rely only on assistance of other countries but also on their own forces and capability in peacekeeping missions across the world and in evaluation of declared units of BiH AF according to Operational Capabilities Concept.
Possible exercise of integration of land and air elements of BiH AF and air elements of U.S. AF would be realized after approval of the BiH Presidency in 2019," BiH MoD stated.
BiH MoD reminds this is not a NATO exercise and that it would be similar to exercises that were conducted earlier in BiH and the region.
"This activity is only one of many successful activities in area of long year cooperation between the USA and BiH, which includes partnership between the Maryland National Guard and BiH AF since 2003.
We wish to emphasized that all exercises which embers of BiH AF participate in, both in and out of BiH is planned professionally, with special emphasis on following security procedures for members of BiH AF, but also for citizens and environment of BiH," PR Office of BiH MoD stated.
