BiH Statistics Agency selects UN indicators for measuring progress in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 9 (FENA) - The BiH Statistics Agency has for the first time selected indicators for measuring progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one for each UN goal, and has assessed the trends of sustainable development.

The aim of the development of these indicators is primarily the promotion of the 2030 Sustainable Development Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ensuring that the creators of long-term policies and decision-makers are provided with measurable indicators of the economic, social and environmental situation, as well as easier defining of strategies and action plans of sustainable development by 2030.

All 17 indicators have been presented through a graphical presentation, seven of which show a positive trend (and move in the direction of higher sustainability), four indicators show a neutral trend, four indicators show a negative trend (and move in the direction of lower sustainability), while two indicators without are without an assessment as the data is available for only one year.

The United Nations has adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Within the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 sub-goals, a wide range of environmental, social and economic development issues was addressed in areas such as poverty, food security, health, education, climate change, gender equality, infrastructure, sustainable consumption and production and social justice.

Each UN member country should, in accordance with its own specifics and conditions of development, define its own goals and monitor their realization, the BiH Statistics Agency stated.
