Wigemark: Foča has exceptional development potential

FENA Press release

FOČA, April 12 (FENA) - Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark visited Foča today where he took part in the eighth public debate on the role of local communities in the process of EU accession, as part of his series of visits to local communities in BiH.

The debates are being held within the project "Local Communities take over the EU Initiative" in 15 municipalities in BiH.

"Most of the benefits from the European integration will be seen in the local communities in this country, and that is why we are here to discuss all the issues that are of the greatest importance for improving the lives of all citizens of Foča, such as economy, education, quality healthcare and solving the issue of unemployment," said Wigemark , pointing out the significant progress made by the Municipality of Foča, for which he believes to have an exceptional development potential.

He added that the Municipality of Foča cooperates with neighboring municipalities, and its traditional connection with countries in the region, such as Serbia and Montenegro, is of particular importance on the European path of the countries of the Western Balkans, and noted that this is one of the most beautiful regions of this country.

German Ambassador to BiH Christiane Hohmann emphasized the role of local communities and their citizens on the country’s path to European integration.

“BiH can expect many changes on the road to the European Union, but we are here together to go through this process that will boost economic growth and improve the living standard of all citizens of the country,” said Hohmann.

The participants presented the "ProLocal" Program for Local Self-Government and Economic Development in BiH, funded by the EU and the German Government, and implemented by the GIZ, while the Office of the European Union and Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUSR) launched the project "Local Communities take over the EU's Initiative" within which they plan to visit 15 local communities in BiH and hold public debates on the role of local communities and the challenges and opportunities offered by the EU accession process.
