Two-day training on targeted campaigns to attract investors begins in Jahorina

FENA Press release

JAHORINA, April 17 (FENA) - The International Finance Corporation (IFC), with the support of the Embassy of Great Britain in Bosnia and Herzegovina is hosting a two-day training on Mt Jahorina on how to implement targeted investment attraction campaigns.

The training is intended for all members of the Network of Local Self-Government in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the local level, i.e. municipalities, towns and cantons, as well as representatives of the cantons involved in the work of the Foreign Investors Council of FBiH.

“Since the establishment of the Investors Support (Aftercare 2007) project, and its upgrade in 2013 through the establishment of the Collaborative Support Network for Investors in BiH, the Foreign Investments Promotion Agency of BiH (FIPA) has been successfully cooperating with the IFC contributing to the joint improvement of the business environment in BiH.

This is a pioneering project as it establishes a new approach in addressing administrative barriers to investment, which has not been a practice in the country until its launch. It is important to note that the IFC also conducts trainings on strengthening the capacities of local communities to attract investments,” said Jasmina Dževlan, spokesperson of the FIPA BiH.

In a direct interviews with investors they identified 486 outstanding issues, of which 95 have already been resolved, 127 are in the process of resolution, while deeper systemic reforms are needed to resolve the remaining 264 outstanding issues.

By using this model of work with investors, from 2013 to date, 16 investments worth 61 million KM have been successfully implemented in the country.

The Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of BiH - FIPA and the Ministry of Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation of RS, with the technical support of the IFC, established in 2013 a framework for the Post-Investment Support Program for investors in BiH and the Collaborative Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The network consists of institutions at all levels of government, that want to provide support to investors in resolving open issues which most often through excess administration, prevent implementation of their entrepreneurial ideas.

Today, the Collaborative Network gathers 62 institutions from all levels of government in BiH including municipalities, cities, cantons, entity and state institutions and ministries, and the Brčko District of BiH.
