Mr. Brkić welcomed Mr. Sakamoto and expressed his satisfaction with the good bilateral and multilateral cooperation between BiH and Japan.

In order to improve relations between the two countries, Mr. Brkić stressed that it was necessary to focus in the forthcoming period on strengthening economic relations.

In this regard, he welcomed the upcoming two-country Investors Forum to be held at the end of May 2018 in Tokyo with the participation of the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber, the Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations as the most efficient way to connect business people of BiH and Japan and promote projects to potential investors.

Mr. Brkić briefly informed his collocutor about the internal political situation in BiH, with particular reference to the upcoming general elections and the views on the amendments to the Election Law of BiH. He then named the positive steps that Bosnia and Herzegovina had done in the last year on the Euro-Atlantic integration agenda.

In this connection, Mr. Brkić stated that the activation of the MAP (Membership Action Plan) was expected to be a positive integration step for BiH.

Mr. Sakamoto thanked for the welcome and expressed the wish of Japan to invest in concrete projects in BiH in the fields of environmental protection, health, education and culture. He officially invited Mr. Brkić to visit Japan this year.

He suggested that the visit is made within the framework of bilateral consultations between the Japanese and BiH foreign ministries, the BiH MFA said.
