BiH takes over the presidency of SEECP from Slovenia

SARAJEVO, April 24 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina today at a ministerial meeting in Brno pri Kranju took over from Slovenia the presidency over the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić said that the one-year presidency of the largest regional forum will be a great obligation and an incentive to improve regional cooperation.

Adresing the participants, Zvizdić said that the main goals of the SEECP include strengthening security, stability, good political environment, economic relations and cooperation in the areas of democracy and justice.

He stressed that BiH, within the SEECP mission, will support the strengthening of human resources, as well as the fight against illegal activities and terrorism, with a view to transform the region into a region of peace and stability.

"We have the capacity and the desire to join the forces that will make South East Europe a positive example of successful regional cooperation, infrastructure connectivity and friendly relations.

BiH is determined to continue strengthening regional cooperation, as it is a condition for creating a stable and secure environment in the region, as one of the main prerequisites for economic development," said Zvizdić.

He underlined the fact that SEECP provides everyone with an opportunity to engage in dialogue at all levels in order to exchange knowledge, best practices and lessons learned from many areas that will present the region as a successful story and accelerate the European integration for those members from the region that are still in the "waiting room" for the European Union.

“The countries in the region, gathered around SEECP, have initiated a political initiative and assumed ownership of the processes in the region, creating ideas of peace, security, good neighborly relations and economic development, by investing efforts to leave behind instability, conflict and collective apathy in order to become a constructive partners in Europe,” underlined Zvizdić.

He added that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a clear and strong interest to see stable and prosperous Europe.

Zvizdić stressed that membership in the European Union for BiH represents the highest foreign policy priority and the strategic objective of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting in Brdo pri Kranju was also attended by prime ministers of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, Croatia Andrej Plenković, Montenegro Duško Marković and Kosovo, Ramus Haradinaj, as well as representatives of the European Union, Serbia, Albania, Romania, Greece and Macedonia, along with Chairman Zvizdić and Prime Minister of Slovenia Miro Cerar.
