Ninth Sarajevo Business Forum begins, record number of participants

SARAJEVO, April 25 (FENA) - Governor of BBI Bank Amer Bukvić and the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB) Bandar M. H. Hajjar officially opened the ninth Sarajevo Business Forum.

“We are proud that this year we have a record number of participants, 1,800 of them coming from 50 countries. The SBF under the motto "One region, one economy" has a great representation of regional leaders. We want to use the Sarajevo Forum to show that we have an excellent region with huge potentials. At the same time, we want to confirm that the cooperation between governments and the private sector, or private-public partnership, is a possible way forward in the region and the world,” Mr. Bukvić said.

The President of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB), Bandar M. H. Hajjar, in his address to the participants of the conference, emphasized that the SBF had become the largest and most important in the region, and wished the participants that the Forum opens their path to success and a better future. IDB, he added, has the honor to contribute to the realization of certain projects in BiH, as well as favorable financial lines that are placed through the BBI Bank.

Through the program panels, in the next two days, the accent will be on the economic integration of the region and cooperation with the countries of the European Union.

The Forum will include participation of, among others: BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović, President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajić.

The significance of the SBF for the development of the region was recognized by the Governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) Ibrahim Al Omar, Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Branimir Gvozdenović, former President of Croatia Stjepan Mesić, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark and the President of the Bled School of Management (IEDC) in Slovenia Danica Purg, as well as many other political and business representatives from the world and the region.

Supporting the efforts of the countries of the region to improve their economies and to be equal partners in the economic exchange with the EU member states, their arrival confirmed Doris Pack, President of Women in the European People's Party and former President of the European Parliament's Delegation for South-Eastern Europe, Martin Gaber, Deputy Director at the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in BiH, Zsuzsanna Hargitai, EBRD Director for the Western Balkans, and Guido Clary, a Senior Banker at the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Expressing interest in cooperation and investment in the region, the invitation of the organizers was answered by a delegation from Indonesia headed by Minister of Land and Spatial Planning, Sofyan A. Djalil, a delegation from Oman led by Mulham Al Jarf, Chief Investment Officer at State General Reserve Fund, as well as representatives from countries of Europe, USA, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Turkey, Japan, Pakistan and others.

This year, the organizers host numerous experts in the field of tourism and information technologies, as well as top sportsmen, including former world boxing champion Adnan Ćatić alias Felix Sturm and Robert Prosinečki, current head coach of the BiH’s national football team.
