Newly appointed ICITAP Director Hancock visits Service for Foreigners' Affairs

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 27 (FENA) - The newly appointed Director of ICITAP (US International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program) in BiH Laddie Hancock visited the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs yesterday and on that occasion met with the management of the Service, Director Slobodan Ujić and his deputy Mirsad Buzar. They discussed the current situation regarding migration in BiH, the implementation of the Biometrics project, as well as other joint projects and the continuation of successful cooperation between the two institutions.

The Director of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs informed Mr. Hancock about the current situation of increased migrant inflows in BiH and expressed his concern over the danger of a migrant crisis starting in BiH, since more than 2,000 migrants have been processed since January, twice as many as the total number of migrants in 2017. He added that the accommodation capacities were reaching the upper limit due to the large influx of migrants, and that the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, along with other competent institutions, in addition to the difficult circumstances, is managing the migrations in BiH.

Mr. Hancock emphasized that ICITAP has at its disposal the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs for any type of assistance and support, in order to counter the challenges of the new migrant wave as effectively as possible.

Director Ujić particularly emphasized the Service’s cooperation with the ICITAP so far, which since its founding was one of the main partners in supporting the work of the Service and strengthening its material, technical and personnel capacities, resulting in more efficient prevention of illegal migration in BiH.

The collocutors also discussed the implementation of the Biometrics project in the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, funded by ICITAP. In this context, the need for additional equipment was discussed, which is crucial for the Service in conditions of increased migrants' inflows.

Director Ujić thanked ICITAP and the US Government for contributing to the development of the Service and expressed the belief that successful cooperation would continue.
