BiH - China visa abolition will facilitate tourism and business cooperation

FENA Darinka Mitrović

SARAJEVO, May 7 (FENA) - We are happy about the fact that the Agreement between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the abolition of visas for ordinary passport holders will come into force on May 29th, which will further open the door for the peoples of the two countries in favor of their mutual communication, mutual understanding," Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chen Bo, said today in Sarajevo.

In her address to the participants of the Symposium dedicated to the Belt and Road Initiative, Ms. Chen Bo stressed that the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to BiH would remain committed to connecting the peoples, creating more platforms for communication and opening more channels for the exchange of opinions.

The Symposium was also attended by the delegation of the Chinese Association for International Understanding (CAFIU), an umbrella think-tank from Beijing, which brings together civil organizations from 60 countries involved in the multidisciplinary study of the Belt and Road Initiative, which is visiting BiH at the invitation of the Center for Promotion and Development of the Belt and Road Initiative and Bosnian-Chinese friendship Association.

CAFIU Vice President and Head of Delegation Ai Ping said that the Belt and Road Initiative was a systematic and comprehensive initiative that emphasizes cooperation in different areas and he highlighted the Stanari Thermal Power Plant as one of the examples of business cooperation.

He recalled that last year in Beijing, China had hosted a Forum for International Cooperation in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, during which the President of China proposed an establishment of a network for cooperation between non-governmental organizations, which was officially established in November last year.

The abolition of visas after May 29th, in his words, will facilitate travel for tourists, as well as trade cooperation between BiH and China.

“All members of this delegation, including me, have great expectations from this visit to BiH,” Mr. Ai Ping emphasized.

The Symposium was organized by the Center for the Promotion and Development of the Belt and Road Initiative, supported by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber and the University of Sarajevo. Representatives of the civil and academic sectors, as well as experts from certain areas related to this initiative, had the opportunity to exchange opinions and attitudes about the modalities of cooperation and the linking of people, ideas and goods through the Belt and Road Initiative.

In the last several months, according to Ahmet Egrlić, President of the BiH FTC, stakeholders at different levels have talked about the projects that are to be realized and those that are current, worth more than seven billion KM. As he pointed out, it would be very important for BiH if all were realized as planned.

“China has an increasing participation in Europe and the world, it is an economic power and in this sense BiH needs to look for its own chances. Certainly, all 16 countries of Southeast and Central Europe are seeking their interest and BiH has also recognized its chance. Today we have the opportunity to talk about these projects and cooperate with several aspects. It is also very important that the visa regime with China has been abolished and, thanks to this, the growth of tourists is expected, although their number is already significant. I think that BiH needs to do much more work to build a tourist infrastructure so that it can accept all the tourists we expect in the coming period,” Mr. Egrlić said.
