SARAJEVO, May 7 (FENA) - Assistant Minister of Security for Asylum Matter in BiH, Marijan Baotić told FENA that the competent institutions monitor on a daily basis the situation regarding the arrival of migrants in BiH.

“Up to date, the Foreign Affairs Service and the Border Police, in the process of detecting illegal migration, or the cases of those who have already illegally entered BiH, there are more than 3,150 persons who have been registered. They have been informed that, when they enter the territory of BiH they should seek asylum, i.e. international protection and express their intentions,” said Baotić.

He added that a large number of them, or 80 percent of the said number, have expressed intent, but when they need to complete the registration, they do not show up for the registration because they know it also implies taking of their biometric data.

Baotić pointed out that their goal is not to stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina as their desired destination, but to transit and to reach the countries of Western Europe.

Baotić also said that the capacities for accommodating illegal migrants in BiH are very modest, but the practice has shown that the asylum center in fact has become a transit point.

“They come there, they stay for a fixed period of four to five or ten days, then they leave the center, and others come after them. Practice shows that they are staying in parks and elsewhere. They are in every sense of the word illegal migrants,” says Baotić.

Baotić also added that this year, at the end of the month of April, they have already received 383 asylum applications.

It means that by the end of the year there will be more than a thousand asylum applications,” estimated Baotić.

He says that the countries of origin of the asylum seekers are mostly known.

“According to their statements, and we do not have the ability to determine their identity, because they do not have any documents, they say they come from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine, Syria, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia …,” Baotić concluded.
