SARAJEVO, May 10 (FENA) - At the meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, I asked for assistance in reaching an opinion on the BiH application for a candidate status. The opinion should contain instructions for BiH on what is still needed to be done on its European path, said the BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović in a statement to the media today.
Summing up yesterday's meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he stressed that it would be good to have this information by November in order to incorporate it in the government programs for the next executive term.
He added that the meeting in Berlin was also a chance to discuss the ways our country can progress on the EU path.
"What I asked is for Germany to stand beside us, because BiH is such a complicated state, probably the most complicated in the world, by the way it is organized, because of its past, the emotions, and it is very difficult to move forward and we need friends," said Izetbegović.
When asked about possible endangering of the candidate status if the Election Law does not get amended, he said it would certainly be a bad message.
“It would especially be a bad message if we were to have a scenario some believe we might have, that we will not be in apposition to constitute the House of Peoples, which then appoints the FBiH President and the FBiH Government, but I believe that this will not happen,” said the BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović.
