BiH Armed Forces contribute significantly to 'Vigilant guard 18-4' in Maryland

MARYLAND/SARAJEVO, May 11 (FENA) - A demonstration of training tasks and activities relevant to the rapid response to the population in Baltimore concluded the exercise of the Maryland National Guard - assistance to civilian structures in case of natural disasters ˮVigilant guard 18-4ˮ, the preparation and realization of which was attended by members of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Armed Forces of BiH.

The helicopter evacuation of injured persons, the accommodation in the reception center and first aid provision, were demonstrated on several different locations, and cameras for terrain search were installed on helicopters and they can record at a distance of three miles with excellent resolution.

Members of the Maryland National Guard also explained how the remote water purification machine works and demonstrated a simulation of a cyber attack and a quick response to the attack.

One group of members of the BiH MoD and AF members, in cooperation with the staff of the Maryland National Guard, participated in the planning, organizing and implementing tasks.

During their work, they were informed about staffing procedures, military decision-making processes, documentation and methodology of the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).

The second group, in the role of an international observer, learned about the strategic level of mutual assistance of civil and military structures in real situations.

Summarizing the results of the exercise, Commander of the Maryland National Guard, Major Linda L. Singh, thanked the BiH MoD and AF members who, according to her, made a significant contribution through their direct participation in the exercise as well as those who were in the role of observers.

She stressed that the Maryland National Guard would give its full support if in the future such a training is organized under the auspices of the US-Adriatic Charter and that she would like BiH to be the bearer of the exercise. The exercise, in addition to training for quick assistance to civilians in natural disasters, aimed at training the cooperation of military and civilian structures.

Office of Defense Cooperation at the US Embassy to BiH provided support during the organization and implementation of these activities, the BiH MoD Office for Public Relations stated.
