BiH CoM accepts Draft Emergency Measures Action Plan regarding migrant crisis

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 15 (FENA) – The BiH Council of Ministers accepted the Draft Emergency Measures Action Plan, according to which the former Coordination Team will become the Operational Staff, in order to coordinate all activities for solving the migrant crisis in a humane and dignified manner in BiH.

The migrant crisis is a problem of the entire BiH and it is necessary to include all institutions in BiH in its resolution.

The draft plan contains a package of urgent measures aimed primarily at ensuring better border control, more effective fight against illegal migration in the territory of BiH, implementation of readmission agreements and strengthening readmission and capacities in the field of asylum, as well as an intensification of activities to prevent smuggling of migrants.

These measures will increase the accommodation capacities in BiH for illegal migrants and vulnerable categories in cooperation with non-governmental and international organizations. The competent institutions in Serbia, Montenegro and the European Union will be asked to undertake activities related to resolving the migrant crisis in BiH.

The issue of border permeability with the Republic of Croatia will be solved in order to prevent the illegal movement of migrants.

With the strengthening of the cooperation of police agencies in BiH, new measures intensify cooperation with the authorities responsible for border management of neighboring countries and the EU.

According to the information of the Ministry of Security, Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing increased illegal migration flows, especially since May this year, BiH CoM stated.
