Borovac: We achieved the primary goal - humanitarian care of migrants

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 22 (FENA) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Semiha Borovac met today with Head of Rule of Law Department in the Office of the European Union Special Representative in BiH Richard Wood, who welcomed the coordinated activities of BiH institutions in connection with the ongoing situation after the influx of a large number of migrants in BiH.

The primary topic of the meeting was the current situation regarding migrants who are currently on the territory of BiH, in terms of the measures already taken by the BiH institutions and international partners.

The focus is on accommodating migrants who expressed intention to seek asylum, in this case at the Refugee and Readmission Center in Salakovac.

Borovac emphasized that BiH expects the EU support in the future activities in resolving the crisis.

Minister Borovac pointed out that by using the Refugee and Readmission Center in Salakovac for the purpose of accommodating persons who expressed their intent or submitted an application for asylum, the primary goal has been achieved, which is the humanitarian care of these persons. She mentioned that persons in the Salakovac center, besides accommodation, are provided with two hot meals a day, as well as all that is necessary under the hygiene standards.

Also, they have at their disposal a team of translators, as well as psychological and social support from non-governmental partners, while the issue of primary healthcare has not yet been resolved.

Borovac announced that the BiH Ministries of Security and Human Rights and Refugees will soon organize a regional conference to discuss the issue of migration and will insist on joint measures to resolve it.

Borovac noted that BiH expects the EU support through the activation of a mechanism for resolving the migrant issue in the region, stated the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees.
