SARAJEVO, May 28 (FENA) - The Golden Ahdnama Charter was presented today to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić, on the occasion of the 555th anniversary of Sultan Mehmed Fatih's Bosnian Ahdnama, hosted by the Bosnian-Turkish Friendship Group Bosphorus in Sarajevo.

In addition to the words of gratitude and congratulations to the organizer of the event, Zvizdić reminded that 555 years have passed since Sultan Mehmed II Fatih presented the Ahdnama to the Bosnian Franciscans, but that nevertheless, the struggle to preserve the most precious values of BiH society - unity, multiculturalism and multi-religious character of the country has never been more evident.

He stressed that while we live in a time when respect for human rights and freedoms is guaranteed by domestic laws and international conventions, we must not remain blind and deaf to numerous cases of violations of the laws and discrimination of BiH citizens on various grounds.

“Threats to human rights and freedoms cannot be tolerated or justified for any reason, because the inequality of any people or groups of citizens calls into question the survival of the mere substance of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Zvizdić emphasized.

The Ahdnama by which the Sultan put under his protection the Bosnian Catholics guaranteed personal and property security and freedom of religious activity, and those who were refugees were guaranteed freedom to return making this document still that much significant after more than five centuries.

It is a document that has and it still does today, promoted the universal values that are in the foundations of all modern and advanced states and from which we can learn a lot, said among other things Zvizdić, and extended sincere congratulations to other recipients of the award.

Ivica Šarić, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo, Nedžad Ajnadžić, Mayor of the Municipality of Centar, Sarajevo, and Academician Ljubomir Berberović are some of the recipients of the Golden Ahdnama Charter.
