SARAJEVO, May 29 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's Minister of Security Dragan Mektić confirmed today to journalists in Sarajevo that the BiH Council of Ministers had decided that at each of the following sessions of the BiH CoM information is provided on the increased influx of migrants in BiH, stating that since the beginning of the year to date, 4,870 illegal migrants have entered BiH.

He pointed out that out of that number, 4,215 had expressed intentions to apply for asylum, and 423 persons applied for asylum, adding that it is possible that there is a certain smaller number of migrants who have not been adequately registered.

He also said that the influx of migrants in the Višegrad area had been reduced by about two-thirds, but the number of migrants crossing the border in the Gacko and Trebinje areas is increasing.

Also, in cooperation with the Red Cross of Sarajevo Canton, a camp for migrants is supposed to be formed in the former barracks in Ušivak near Hadžići, because additional facilities for accommodation are needed, and the current camp in Bihać will be moved to location between that city and Velika Kladuša.

“Around every center we form for migrants, a network of organized crime for smuggling and trafficking of people is established, and such a case was also in Salakovac near Mostar, and we requested from the SIPA, the FBiH Ministry of Interior and the HNC MIA to work to the maximum on the prevention and detection of these groups,” he said.

Since BiH is a member of the international crisis fund, he has applied for Bosnia and Herzegovina to receive a million euros to mitigate the consequences of the migrant crisis and the costs of large migrants' inflows.

He said that a ministerial meeting in Sarajevo had been scheduled for June 7, which will be dedicated to seeking a response to the migrant crisis, but also to detecting and preventing the smuggling of people, adding that ministers from eight countries are invited to the gathering.
