BiH Council of Ministers - No asylums granted in BiH so far

SARAJEVO, June 5 (FENA) - The BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektić today informed the BiH Council of Ministers about the situation in the area of ​​migration in connection with the increased influx of migrants to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the data at disposal, from 1 January to 3 June this year, the Foreigners’ Affairs Service registered 5,319 illegal migrants, of whom 4,721 declared their intent to seek asylum, and 437 migrants applied for asylum.

At the Refugee Center of the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees in Salakovac concluding June 3, there were 188 foreign nationals who expressed intent or have already sought asylum.

The Council of Ministers has been informed that no asylum was granted in our country.

The information also states that the Emergency Action Plan containing five priorities, 17 measures and 73 activities is being duly implemented.

The priorities are aimed at strengthening the BiH Border Police for the purpose of better control of the border and prevention of illegal entry into the territory of BiH, strengthening the capacities of the Foreigners’ Affairs Service and the Sector for Migration of the Ministry of Security, strengthening capacities in the field of asylum and intensifying the fight against smuggling of migrants, as well as strengthening the readmission capacities along with the implementation of the readmission agreement.

Support to the BiH Border Police shall continue for the sake of protecting the border from the illegal entry of migrants by engaging additional police officers from the BiH police agencies, with the additional engagement of police officers from the MoI of RS and the Brčko District of BiH being in progress.

A request has been submitted to Council of Europe Development Bank for withdrawal of funds from the Fund for Migrants along with the activities on the opening of a local account for this purpose.

The operational headquarters for migration issues is continuously in session and holds weekly meetings.
