SARAJEVO, June 6 (FENA) - Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić stated in Sarajevo today it is estimated there are between 1700 and 1800 migrants in BiH at the moment, adding the problem is that the neighbor countries are not following readmission agreements.

"Implementation of readmission agreements is going through a serious crisis because countries do not want to accept police reports that a migrant was found near the border as sufficient proof he came from their country and should be returned there," said Mektić, adding that 549 migrants have been returned from BiH from 1st January this year in accordance with the readmission agreements.

Mektić repeated that special problem are citizens of Iran whose visas were abolished by Serbia and they are trying to get to Western Europe from that country, whereas majority of migrants are from Pakistan.

He specified that 5664 migrants have entered BiH since the beginning of the year, 5.065 of them expressed intention to seek asylum, 437 filed a request for asylum, but none have been approved yet.

Mektić said that number of illegal migrants increased in BiH over the weekend, around 350 of them, who found a new route.

He added that RS MoI will secure 60 police officers and Brčko District MoI 15 officers for border protection and they will ask for more assistance if necessary.

Mektić emphasized that Ušivak barracks in Hadžići will be offered to the competent ministry to accommodate migrants and tomorrow he will meet with prime ministers of FBiH and USC to discuss solutions for complex situation in that canton.

He explained that speculations on lack of food for migrants are not accurate and that there is plenty of food and he was told by the European Commissioner for Refugees yesterday that he would visit BiH soon and that the European Commission will approve certain funds for migrants in BiH soon.

Mektić said that international conference on migration will be held in Sarajevo tomorrow, which will gather representatives of Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, BiH, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria to try and find one point on the Balkan route everyone would focus on to stop migration.

He underlined that around 3500 migrants have been returned from BiH border this year and that none of the ones who entered posed security threat.
