SARAJEVO, June 6 (FENA) - The first multiethnic law enforcement agency in BiH was established 18 years ago and this institution was the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said today Director of the Border Police of BiH Zoran Galić at a ceremony held at the premises of the General Headquarters in Sarajevo on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of this institution.
When someone turns 18, this implies a certain kind of maturity and ability to undertake appropriate independent activities. This agency, said Galić today, is structurally and functionally stable, and despite all the difficulties in its work, it is efficient in executing the tasks that has been entrusted with.
Galić also added that the border control operations are performed in accordance with the defined legal framework of BiH, in accordance with the best standards and practices of partner agencies in Europe.
The situation with migrant crisis, as a global problem, has reflected on the whole territory of BiH as well, and also on the Border Police. Galić said that this has been the biggest challenge for this institution since its establishment.
Galić also underlined theat the Border Police has an uncompromising attitude and it undertakes all the measures and actions within its competences and capacities, both in terms of personnel and material and technical ones.
“Our officers, together with members of the Foreigners' Affairs Service of BiH, are the first in the contact with illegal migrants. However, this is not only the concern of these agencies, but also all the agencies that are part of the integrated border control, police authorities in BiH and intelligence agencies,” said Galić.
Today’s ceremony was attended by representatives of the BiH Ministry of Security, the Court of BiH, the Prosecutor's Office, Intelligence and Security Agency of BiH, the police and police support agencies at the state level, the Police of the Brčko District of BiH, as well as the entity ministries of interior, the cantonal ministries of interior and other dignitaries and guests.
