SARAJEVO, June 13 (FENA) - Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bosnia and Herzegovina Haldun Koç aid today in an interview with FENA that the Turkish citizens in BiH as well, will be able to vote in early presidential and parliamentary elections during the upcoming weekend, on 16 and 17 June, at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo.

The polling stations will be open from 09.00 to 21.00hrs.

Ambassador Koç, in an interview with FENA and Anadolu Agency, reminded that the early presidential and parliamentary elections in the Republic of Turkey will be held on June 24 this year.

He noted that all voters living abroad are given the possibility to vote and the voting process began on June 7 and will last until June 19. These are the countries with a large number of Turkish citizens, such as European countries, the United States, Australia and others.

“The goal after this election is to have a more dynamic, efficient and faster decision-making and executive process. The executive powers directed towards the council of ministers will be held directly by the president instead of the prime minister as it has been to date, and in the legislative part, the number of parliamentary seats will be increased to 600,”explained Koç.

Koç also added that Turkey has traditionally very high turnout in all elections, and this includes Turkish citizens voting abroad.

“In case of the referendum held last year, 49 percent of the registered voters used this right, while in BiH and Sarajevo it was even more than this average. There were more than 50 percent of those who registered, and as this number is close to 2,500 in BiH, we expect a higher turnout this year of almost 60 percent,” said Koç.

On all previous occasions, he added, the elections were well organized and the whole process was conducted in peaceful, democratic and safe atmosphere and they expect it to be the same again this time.

“It is coincidence that the two friendly countries, the Republic of Turkey and BiH, have elections in the same year. I hope that the elections in both countries will be held in a positive, fair and democratic atmosphere and bring us progress and a successful future,” said Turkish Ambassador.

He stated that the relations between the two countries are sincere and open and that they at a very high level in every possible sense, and are constantly improved.

“Our wish and goal is a prosperous, peaceful and stable BiH, oriented towards the future,” emphasized the Koç, expressing support to BiH on its path to EU and NATO.

When it comes to cooperation in the economy sector, Koç underlined that the total trade volume between Turkey and BiH is growing each year, and that the goal is also to increase Turkish investments in BiH.

“When I took over this duty, the volume of trade annually was USD 500 million, and it grew each year by hundred million dollars. At the end of 2017, this exchange reached USD 700 million, and I am rejoiced with the fact that in the first four months of this year, compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 28 percent. All this gives us reasons, if such trends continue, to expect that the trade exchange will reach one billion dollars and we will not wait long to achieve this goal,” stated Ambassador Haldun Koç.
