SARAJEVO, June 17 (FENA) - Early presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey will be held on June 24, and the polling stations opened yesterday morning and are open until 9 pm on Sunday at the the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo.

Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bosnia and Herzegovina Haldun Koç told reporters that 2,500 Turkish citizens are registered in BiH, and a good turnout is expected.

“We expect great turnout as it was at last year's referendum and from earlier experiences we know that the Turkish people will show readiness when it comes to elections, especially in foreign representative offices,” said Ambassador Koç, adding that last year at the referendum the turnout was more than 50 percent.

Turkish ambassador added that they took all the measures to conduct the vote in a transparent and fair environment and expressed gratitude to all the BiH institutions that have helped them in this.

“We want the results of these elections to bring prosperity and further strengthen the Republic of Turkey. The aim is to have a more dynamic, efficient and faster decision-making and executive process after the elections,” said Ambassador Koç.

He recalled that Turkish citizens voted last year in a referendum and voted for the constitutional changes for their country to switch to presidential system, and that on June 24 they will elect president and deputies in the Turkish parliament.

He added that Turkey would no longer have a government and a prime minister in the sense it had in the past, but that these prime ministerial powers will be transferred to the country's president. As for the legislative sphere of government, the number of seats in the Turkish parliament will be increased to 600.

The polling stations at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Sarajevo will be open on June 16 and 17 from 9 am to 9 pm.
