BIHAĆ, June 26 (FENA) – Yesterday's extraordinary session of the Bihać City Council concluded with adoption of several conclusions and appeal to the competent state institutions for assistance.
There was only one item on the agenda at yesterday's session, which is the migrant crisis in area of the city.
City Council of Bihać demands for a decision to be made on adequate accommodation of migrants within seven days, which will be controlled by the Ministry of Security of BiH. Otherwise, councilmen and Mayor of Bihać will express their dissatisfaction with a protest in front of building of the Council of Ministers of BiH.
"Number of migrants in our city and their needs have gone beyond possibilities of the City Administration and the USC Government. We truly want to help, but the fact is we cannot anymore. We are limited by resources and jurisdictions. We received several promises from the Ministry of Security of BiH, Council of Ministers and the FBiH Government but nothing has been done. That needs to change immediately so the problem would not escalate," said Mayor of Bihać Šuhret Fazlić.
He stated that 2.627 migrants have been registered in Bihać so far, which was confirmed by Minister of Interior of USC Anel Ramić, adding that more than 3500 migrants are currently residing in area of the canton.
Abdulah Budimlić from Bihać Red Cross presented the information that it takes more than four thousand KM to secure food and hygienic supplies for migrants on a daily basis.
"We are running out of resources and we have not received anything from the state. Due to this situation we have completely neglected our residents in the state of social need. So far we have only received assistance from the City of Bihać, cantonal government, Islamic Community of BiH and some international humanitarian organizations," added Budimlić.
Collegium of the Bihać City Council invited Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić, Prime Minister of FBiH Fadil Novalić and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić to attend this extraordinary session but none of them responded.
