MEDJUGORJE, June 26 (FENA) - Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić stated in Medjugorje that BiH will not be a shelter for migrants and refugees and that there is no plan of building shelters in Herzegovina.

Before the session of the Presidency of the Alliance of Municipalities and Cities of FBiH, where Minister Mektić was invited to inform representatives of local administration units about activities of state institutions when it comes to migrant crisis, Mektić stated that problem cannot be solved or separated from the local community.

According to him, problem of illegal migrants is a serious challenge, not only for BiH and neighbor countries, but for the entire European Union.

"These migrations in BiH are coming from Greece and Bulgaria, and the EU has the obligation to solve this problem with us," he emphasized.

Mektić said that domestic institutions are working in two directions. First is strengthening capacity of protection at the state border by redirecting police officers from the state level, and now that will be done on the entity level as well.

"The other direction is of humanitarian character, which is to give all the necessary assistance and protection to those people so they would be given the international refugee status," said Mektić.

He announced he expects two shelters to be formed for migrants soon, one near Sarajevo and the other in area of Una-Sana Canton.

Mektić said media reports that building of shelters is planned in cities of Western Herzegovina are false and that such plans do not exist.

"All those people who are a threat to a community, prone to conflict and physical incidents will be isolated," said Mektić.
