Nihad Bojadžić sentenced to ten years in prison for war crimes in Jablanica

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 13 (FENA) - The former commander of the Bosnian Army’s Zulfikar Squad, Nihad Bojadžić, was convicted of rape and other crimes against Croat civilians and prisoners of war in Jablanica in 1993.

The appeals chamber of the Bosnian state court on Friday found Nihad Bojadžić of committing rape together with another member of the Bosnian Army in Jablanica in 1993.

Bojadžić was also found guilty on nine counts of inhumane treatment, mistreatment and abuse of prisoners of war who were members of the Croatian Defense Council, the Bosnian Croat wartime force.

“The court finds that the defendant’s guilt has been proved beyond reasonable doubt,” said the appeals chamber’s presiding judge, Redžib Begić.

Bojadžić was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and six years for the prisoner abuses, and the court ruled that he should serve a cumulative sentence of ten years in jail.

However he was also sentenced to 15 years in another case last year for committing crimes in the village of Trusina, near Konjic in 1993, and judge Begić said that he should serve a single sentence of 15 years for both the Jablanica and Trusina crimes.

The verdict can be appealed, BIRN reports.
