SARAJEVO, July 15 (FENA) - The Embassy of the Republic of France in Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted a reception in Sarajevo on Saturday evening on the occasion of the National Day of France, which is celebrated in memory of July 14, 1789, the beginning of the Great the French Revolution which overthrown the then hated absolutist monarchy.

Participants of the traditional reception at the French residence, which began with the national anthems of the two countries, were welcomed by Ambassador of France in Bosnia and Herzegovina Guillaume Rousson, stressing his country's readiness to continue supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina on the path of European integration, and contribute strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

He reminded of the fact that general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held in October, emphasizing their importance for the future democratic development of the country, with the remark that the campaign has long begun.

"France, as well as its partners in the European Union (EU), are closely following this campaign. It is our wish that the campaign does not damage the European path of BiH, either during, or after the elections," said Ambassador Rousson, stressing that there are numerous challenges ahead of BiH, starting with the responses to the second set of questions of the European Commission and in general the implementation of the Reform agenda.

As he said, France is participating in this process of integration of BiH in the European Union, with an example of a current project relating to the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications of Higher Education, and the TAIEX Program, dedicated to the fight against the smuggling of cultural goods.

"In addition to the assistance on the European path, France, in practice, shows its friendship with Bosnia and Herzegovina on a bilateral level, supporting, with the help of the Louvre, the National Museum of BiH, or promoting the French language. Thus, starting with the new school year, a department of French language will be opened in the 'Obala' Grammar School in Sarajevo," said the French Ambassador.

He added that France actively cooperates with BiH in the field of security - alone or together with Germany, as it is in the case of combating smuggling of light weapons.

Ambassador Rousson announced that his country will celebrate the centenary of the ceasefire from 1918 (the end of the First World War) on November 11 this year and that the heads of states and governments of countries will be invited to Paris for the marking. A Forum for Peace will also be organized, with a focus on the promise given back then, "Never to be repeated".

He said that the goal of the forum is to bring together heads of states and governments, as well as officials from international and non-governmental organizations, intellectuals, and all those who want to think, act, work on multilateralism and build peace.

The solemn reception at the French residence was attended by numerous prominent figures from BiH public and cultural life, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and international officials, and numerous guests.
