Chairman Zvizdić meets with Greek Prime Minister Tsipras in Mostar

MOSTAR, July 24 (FENA) - Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdić met with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who was on his first official visit to BiH, in Mostar on Monday.

As the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić said after the meeting, several topics were discussed, primarily the EU perspective of BiH and the Western Balkans.

“I informed him about our activities in this regard and emphasized that this is the most important foreign policy objective of BiH,” Zvizdić said, adding that obtaining a candidate status and activating the MAP are the two most important priorities for BiH.

“Greece has been our great friend in these processes and I expect and hope for further and constructive cooperation on these objectives,” said Zvizdić, thanking his Greek counterpart for the assistance provided so far.

Zvizdić stressed that he believes that Greece and BiH can significantly increase the volume of economic cooperation and that this will surely go in the direction of better connection of the two countries.

“We also discussed the idea of ​​establishing a direct flight between Sarajevo and Athens and representatives of the competent ministries will continue to work on making this happen,” said Zvizdić.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he believes it is extremely important to re-establish relations with all Western Balkan countries and for Greece to strengthen its role in promoting peace, security and stability in the neighborhood.

After many years, Tsipras said, it is possible to speak again of a strong EU perspective for the countries in the region that is actively supported by Greece.

“Our support for stability, development and the EU perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been and remains unequivocal,” said Greek Prime Minister, adding that Greece contributed to the post-war reconstruction of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Greece supports the efforts you are making for reconciliation and stability, as well as significant reforms that relate to your institutions, for improvement and a new wave of development,” stressed Tsipras.

He noted that there are significant opportunities for promotion and improvement of Greek investments in BiH, and he particularly referred to sectors of infrastructure, transport, energy, agricultural products and tourism.

“It is also important for us to have direct flights between the capitals of our two countries in the future,” said Tsipras.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras arrived in BiH to participate in the event "Mostar does not forget its friends", marking the 14th anniversary of the opening of the rebuilt Old Bridge.

Together with Montenegrin counterpart Duško Marković, Tsipras signed the Mostar Peace Charter dedicated to the preservation of peace and stability in the region.

Tsipras and Marković, together with Zvizdić and Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev visited the Old Bridge where, as a gesture of peace, they threw flowers in the Neretva River.
