VAREŠ, August 20 (FENA) - The royal town of Bobovac is attracting an increasing number of tourists this season which runs from May 15 to December 1, and it has already exceeded 10,000. Bobovac is visited by guests from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina and tourists from all over the world.

Tourists from Tanzania, Qatar, Turkey, Germany, Malaysia, China, Japan, Poland, the Czech Republic, France and the countries in the region enjoy the beauty of Bobovac and the unspoiled nature.

Admir Čizmo from the Vareš Tourism Center said that the most numerous guests are the French, who come several times a year.

“The French have a good tour guide booklet for BiH that includes Bobovac and Kraljeva Sutjeska. They come with their camping trailers. We do not offer camping services, but we have a picnic site where they are allowed to park their vehicles,” said Čizmo.

He said that they hope for a bigger visit after the road infrastructure is improved because from both directions, both Vareš and Kakanj there are five kilometers of gravel road.

This road is not bad for passenger cars, but for buses it is.

"We have to have a better parking lot and create an ambiance around the royal city," said Čizmo, adding that there are several accommodation facilities in the vicinity of Bobovac, such as hunting, mountaineering and fishing lodges, as well as several rural households that offer accommodation.

Čizmo says that tourists who stay for several days in this area mostly sleep in Kakanj or in Vareš.

The cycling trail is good from both directions, while the hiking route exists only from the direction of Vareš, via Perun and Borovica. We are working on making all the trails as functional as possible.

He reminded that during the season, from 10.00 to 17.00 hrs., there is a tourist guide available for visits to Bobovac.
Bobovac is an integral part of the Vareš cultural heritage which played a key role in the history of the Bosnian kingdom and the royal dynasty of Kotromanić.

Bobovac is found for the first time in the historical sources from the mid-14th century.

After the fall of the Bosnian kingdom under the Ottoman occupation, Bobovac lost its significance as a fortified town.

Today, as a royal city of the medieval Bosnian state, it stands as a protected national monument.

Bobovac was also the royal graveyard in which the kings were buried, among them Ostoja, Tvrtko II and Stjepan Tomaš.

The tomb chapel has gone through partial restauration and now stands as a monument to the royal family.
