Ivanić and Čović: Izetbegović cannot speak on behalf BiH Presidency on his own

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 20 (FENA) - Members of the BiH Presidency, Mladen Ivanić and Dragan Čović, issued today a joint statement in which they said that “the BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović cannot speak on behalf of this institution alone, unless there is consent with the other two members, but he can speak exclusively as a Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH.”

They emphasized that they did not share “Izetbegović's opinion in his letter on the occasion of the death of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan" and said that they “condemn such abuse of the duty of the BiH Presidency Chairman.”

“Izetbegović could not have, without prior consultation, sent a letter of condolence and a press release on behalf of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which besides the expression of condolence, goes far beyond into the domain of unacceptable political qualification,” said Ivanić and Čović in their statement.

The BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović yesterday sent a letter of condolence on behalf of the BiH Presidency and himself to the family of Kofi Annan.

Izetbegović said that Kofi Annan, who, quoting the words of UN Secretary-General Antony Guterres, in many ways symbolized the UN, "was a witness and a participant of the UN's most serious failures and mistakes that led to the genocide in Srebrenica".
