Izetbegović: Inappropriate and unnecessary reactions by Čović and Ivanić

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 20 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegović’s office said today that it rejects and view as inappropriate and unnecessary the reaction of members of the BiH Presidency Mladen Ivanić and Dragan Čović to the letter of condolence that BiH Presidency Chairman Izetbegović sent over the death of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The statement reads that it is completely unclear what is it in this letter of condolence that "deeply intrudes into the domain of an unacceptable political qualification" and which of the undeniable facts Ivanić and Čović are questioning?

“Are they, in fact, questioning the genocide against Bosniaks that was executed in Srebrenica, which was adjudicated before the Hague Tribunal and the International Court of Justice? Do they question the fact that the UN had left its own "safe zone” to be subjected to the massacre? Or that Kofi Annan himself in 1999 publicly apologized for the mistakes that the UN had committed during the war in BiH, specifically referring to Srebrenica, which he said would "eternally haunt our history"? itis said in a statement from Izetbegović’s office.

It is particularly surprising to see Dragan Čović's attitude towards the genocide in Srebrenica and, in general, the crimes committed against Bosniaks.

“Čović has double standards for everything, including for the right of the BiH Presidency Chairman to represent this institution. In his capacity as a chairman, despite the warning, Čović made a scandal in Belgrade when he himself offered a transfer of BiH's sovereignty to Serbia in relation to Kosovo matters, and now he is excluding himself from Izetbegović's expression of condolence, which is completely based on facts and was sent in accordance with previous practice in the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” it is said in the statement.

The statement reads that "everything that has been stated in the letter of condolence is an indisputable, no matter how hard someone tries to question it."

“The BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović said the truth and he did not need anyone's consent to do that. The truth cannot be changed, it must not be silenced, and no one can distance themselves from it,” said Izetbegović's office.
