SARAJEVO, August 23 (FENA) - A positive business story about the processing of medicinal herbs and the ways local producers have come to terms with the changes in the world market comes from Ljubinje, a town in eastern Herzegovina.
While new export opportunities are expected, there is a growing number of local producers, and despite the challenges, people in Ljubinje are persistent in making a step forward and making progress.
“We deal with purchase and primary processing of self-sprung, medicinal, aromatic herbs. We produce teas, seedlings, essential oils, herbal drops and cosmetic products. The most important thing for us is that we have rounded up the process of production, from seed to finished product,” said the director of company "LjBilje" Branko Baroš.
After the first year of operations, they have noticed the shortage of certain plant species, which led them to start with plantations. This was a key point in their further growth. The focus of their work was the expansion of the cooperative network and the provision of seeds and planting material.
The USAID/Sweden FARMA II Project has enabled them to procure equipment for the production of cosmetic products.
While potential partners for distribution of products at regional and global level are coming to Ljubinje, the community believes that such investments can bring a new opportunity for the development of the whole of eastern Herzegovina, the USAID / Sweden FARMA II Project said.
