Germany secures 328.970 euros for demining of 2.1 km² near Sanski Most

SARAJEVO, September 6 (FENA) – German Ambassador to BiH Christine Hohmann signed an Agreement today on demining of area near Sanski Most with Regional Director of the Norwegian People's Aid Sven Jonas Zachrisson.

Germany secured 328.970 euros for demining of 2.1 km² in area of Šehovci 1 near Sanski Most.

Ambassador Hohmann said it is important for BiH institutions and international community to work together in demining the remaining areas contaminated by landmines so that local population could use them again.

She specified that Germany has secured around 35 million euros since 1997 for humanitarian demining in BiH and added she is pleased this cooperation continued.

Zachrisson said that humanitarian demining program of the Norwegian People's Aid has been active when it comes to demining in BiH since 1996 and total of 28 km² or around 15 percent of areas suspected to be contaminated by mines have been treated.

It was emphasized at the signing ceremony that there is over 1.000 km² of mine polluted areas in BiH.
