BANJA LUKA, September 11(FENA) - President of RS and SNSD Milorad Dodik claims that it is unbelievable that the United States has imposed sanctions on a deputy from his party in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Nikola Špirić, “who is the opposition” and that “the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who signed the decision does not even know who Špirić is.”
“Pompeo perhaps might know who Dodik is, but he probably does not who Špirić is. This is a unique case in the world that the opposition MP is treated in such a way. This usually happens to persons who hold power,” said Dodik.
Dodik believes that "Špirić's sin is that he did not support the anti-Serb activities of the Intelligence Security Agency of BiH, because he resigned from the commission that was supposed to give legality to the wiretapping of myself, Aleksandar Vučić, Željka Cvijanović and leading officials in RS and Serbia."
"And, of course, they have construed all of this against Špirić," Dodik said.
Dodik says that this entire situation is humiliating for the United States, not for Špirić, whom he urged to reject such behavior.
"In the end, Špirić has already visited the United States so he does not have to go again," he added.
Dodik reiterated his position that the sanctions against Špirić are in fact "political reckoning" by the US Ambassador to BiH Maureen Cormack, whose work, once again, he strongly criticized.
The United States imposed sanctions on the SNSD deputy in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Nikola Špirić, because, as the State Department noted, his involvement in large-scale corruption.
In a statement published on the State Department's website, it is said that Špirić, in performing his duties as a deputy in the parliament, "was involved in public corruption, including accepting unlawful benefits in exchange for executing favors in public domain and interference in public procedures".
