SARAJEVO, September 18 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH and the Veterinary Office, and in cooperation with other competent institutions in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, has made preparations to obtain export licenses for red meat, said Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović in Sarajevo today.

He explained that the term "red meat" refers to the meat of cattle, goats and sheep, and that together with dairy products it is the most demanding task in terms of standards that need to be met.

“If we succeed, this will be one of the greatest achievements because we managed to enter demanding EU market, from the point of view of health, quality standards, animal diseases, etc.,” said Minister Šarović.

He added that the action plan has been adopted few months ago.

“We have all progressed, the entire system and exporters. That is why we requested that the visit from the EU inspection institutions to be in the second half of 2019,” said Šarović.

He says that there is one thing left that has not been completed, which is a zero-census that implies the listing of all cattle - cows, sheep and goats throughout the country.

Šarović added stated that the Agency for Animal Marking is doing this part of the job, but that in its database, for example, there are one million and 500 thousand cattle. "

“We believe that the more likely number is only 500,000. Therefore, we need to reset everything, start from the beginning and list each animal, provide a livestock passport, stamp and the rest,” said Šarović, stressing that a completely new and updated database is needed in order to present it to the European Commission.

“In order to do this, we need to secure one and a half million KM from the budget and finish the job within two or three months,” stressed Šarović.

He pointed out that those who advocate for stopping this process essentially are those who support illegal activities in this field.
