SARAJEVO, October 3 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović said today that the implementation of the livestock census, which implies the registering of all the livestock (cattle, sheep and goats) throughout the country, is a priority task to ensure the conditions for the export of red meat to the EU and any other part of the world.

Šarović reminded that BiH has an agency for marking the livestock in BiH, where every individual animal is registered and it gets its passport.

“According to this existing registry, there are there are about 1.2 million farm animals in BiH, but on the ground we have found a much lesser number,” stressed Šarović.

In order for BiH to export red meat to the EU, he pointed out, it is necessary to know the exact number of the livestock that are included in the category of red meat.

"That is why it is crucial to conduct the livestock census," said Šarović, adding that this job should have been completed ten years ago.

Šarović said that it is estimated that this census would cost about 1.5 million KM, and it can be done in two months.
