SARAJEVO, October 4 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency member Mladen Ivanić said today in Sarajevo after a meeting with Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Cooperation Department for Europe, Ana Raffo-Caiado, that the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety of BiH achieved very good cooperation with the IAEA, and that in the last few years, a number of significant new projects have been implemented.

“These projects specifically refer to the use of nuclear energy in medicine. The hospital in Kasindol will soon receive up to date CT device worth about 500 thousand euros, and a similar device has already been delivered to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo,” noted Ivanić.

Ivanić also added that the delivery of equipment has been agreed in Banja Luka for the gallium-68 laboratory used in diagnostics in nuclear medicine and that the Veterinary Faculty in Sarajevo and the Institute “Dr. Vaso Butozan” in Banja Luka will get two laboratory sets worth about 500 thousand euros.

“This equipment is used for ascertaining the health of the products of animal origin and thus it creates preconditions for these types of products to be exported which is very important and shows that cooperation with international institutions can be easily achieved and I am convinced that similar projects will continue in the future,” Ivanić added.

He said that also another project is in a preparatory stage, which should enable the production of various compounds for diagnostics in the clinical centers in Banja Luka and Sarajevo.

The technical cooperation with the IAEA is achieved through projects that help achieve international standards in the field of protection against ionizing radiation, nuclear safety through trainings, scholarships, scientific visits, expert missions and donation of equipment.

During her two-day visit to BiH, Raffo-Caiado will stay in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, where she will visit several institutions.
