SARAJEVO, October 10 (FENA) - Investing in increase of energy efficiency of industrial processes is in most cases is cost-effective after one or two years, it was said at a workshop "Optimization of Industrial Processes through Energy Efficiency Measures - Practical Examples and Case Studies" held today in Sarajevo.
Participants noted that the percentage of energy that can be saved by increasing efficiency varies depending on the type of industry and production process, but that in average it is 15 percent.
Advisor at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in BiH for Small Enterprises Zihnija Hasović said that the EBRD in BiH, through two cycles so far, has invested 75 million euros in loans for energy efficiency projects.
"At the moment, we have a credit line for competitiveness and approximation to the EU standards worth 20 million euros via three local banks, which is also open to projects for the increase of energy efficiency of industrial processes," Hasović added.
He explained that the EBRD also provides about 50 percent of grant funds for energy efficiency auditing projects for companies that want to get a breakdown of the loss of resources and the efficiency of production processes.
Hasović also noted that EBRD has hired a consultant who pro bono helps companies to develop a project idea and to verify the project before they submit a loan application.
The workshop was organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH and the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH.
