SARAJEVO, October 15 (FENA) - The Council for the Press and Online Media in Bosnia and Herzegovina recently published a brochure of the Press and Online Media Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Braille Alphabet with instructions for filing complaints against print and online media.
This is the first time that a self-regulatory body in the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe has decided to print the Code in the Braille Alphabet.
Director of the Press Council Ljiljana Zurovac said in an interview with FENA that the need for this code, which is specifically printed for blind and visually impaired persons, has been recognized during the workshops and seminars that were intended for them, which covered the media and media reporting on this population.
“This will allow citizens with impaired vision the opportunity to have equal access in comparison to other citizens and their rights and techniques that are available to them in the Press Council, when it comes to violation of their human rights, privacy or in any way false and inaccurate reporting about them,” Zurovac emphasized.
Zurovac believes that the Code could greatly help the blind and visually impaired people who are often the subject of the media, and reporting done about them is often false, biased and unprofessional.
The Press and Online Media Code in BiH was printed in the printing press of the Association "Lotos" in Tuzla, and the support was also provided by the Sarajevo Publishing Foundation, NED and UNESCO/EC.
